Apple unveils iPhone SE 3, iPad Air 5, M1 Ultra, Mac Studio & Studio display - Here's everything you need to know.

Last night Apple unveiled a range of new products on their live-streamed event, confirming many rumours, and surprising us too. Below are some of the key announcements, which we discuss in further detail further on.

  • Range of new original movies and TV shows on Apple TV +
  • New Green iPhone 13 and 13 Pro
  • iPhone SE 3 keeps the same design, but has the toughest glass yet. Plus it packs the A15 bionic chip, and 5G Connectivity - offering a whole host of new benefits.
  • iPad Air has the M1 Chip - with an 8 core CPU, 8 Core GPU and 16 Core neural engine, for a tablet that’s faster than most notebooks. Supports 5G as well as compatibility with Apple Pencil 2 and the Magic Notebook. 
  • Mac Studio is a powerhouse of a PC but in a compact size. Offering the best chip to date, the M1 ultra which has Ultra-Fusion architecture. Includes A mindblowing 20 core CPU, 64 core GPU and 32 core neural engine and 128GB RAM. 
  • Mac studio display has an innovative design, from tiny bezels to a stand that allows tilt, height adjustment and even view in portrait mode. It enables connectivity to a range of devices thanks to a huge range of ports. It also offers 5K resolution, 600 nits brightness and the A13 bionic chip. 
  • A common feature among all new releases is the use of recycled materials, with up to 100% recycled aluminium casing, recycled rare earth materials and the removal of plastic packaging on new iPhones. 
  • There was a mention of a new Macbook Pro, which is set for the future. 


New Content for Apple TV +

Apple has really invested in their streaming service, with the release of a variety of original movies and TV shows from The Morning Show, Swan Song or Coda, many of which have been nominated for BAFTA’s, Academy Awards and more. Apple teased that we can also expect upcoming movies from the likes of Mahershala Ali, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Holland and Dakota Johnson in the near future.

The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are now available in stunning green, offering a new way to express your style.

Whilst it’s housed in a similar design to previous generations, we see improvements on the glass used, as it now uses the toughest glass available on both the front and back of the phone. This is combined with IP67 dust and water resistance, making a super durable iPhone.

Considering this is Apple’s budget-friendly range, we were pleased to see it has the same chip as the iPhone 13, the A15 bionic. This offers a 6 core CPU that can handle demanding tasks and relatively complex applications whilst the 16 core neural engine offers 15.8 million operations per second, allowing features such as LiveText to work in real-time. 

Whilst still sitting at an affordable price in terms of iPhones, we have performance that's 1.8 times faster than the iPhone 8 and 3 times faster than the iPhone 6. 

It also boasts a better battery life that’s said to last all day, whilst 5G compatibility allows for faster download speeds and lower latency when on the go. This makes it perfect for streaming movies on public transport, or facetiming loved ones when on the go. 

Speaking of Facetiming, the 12MP front camera means whether you’re chatting to friends, family or colleagues, they will be able to see you in crisp quality.

The iPhone Se 3 will cost around $429.

iPad Air 5

The iPad Air 5 is seriously impressive, packing many of the specs we would see in the iPad Pro. We’re talking the M1 chip which houses an 8 core CPU and GPU - making it a tablet that’s faster than many of the notebooks out there. This can allow you to use complex software and demanding games with ease. Meanwhile, the 16 core neural engine allows for fast AI enhancements. 

As Apple understand that many iPad owners use their iPads for gaming or content creation, we are pleased to see P3 colour, truetone, 500nits brightness and anti-reflective coating, for accurate visuals when on the go. 

The 12MP front camera with centre stage makes taking selfies, voice calling family or video conferencing off your iPad effortless, ensuring you are always in shot. 

As the iPad is designed to be taken on the go, we weren't surprised to find 5G connectivity available for speed and reliability when on the go. We also have a 2X faster USB-C port for transferring files between devices. 


Which GB is iPad Air 5 available in? 

The iPad Air (2022) will be available in both 64GB and 256GB models.


Is the iPad Air 5 (2022) available in WiFi-only? 

Yes, you will be able to choose between WiFi only or cellular an iPad Air 5, for whichever suits you best.

The Mac Studio

The Mac studio offers serious power in a tiny desktop format, sitting at just 7.7” in both length and width, and 3.7” in height. It has a smart design that sucks in air, keeping it cool whilst also being virtually silent, even on heavier tasks. 

The Mac Studio has 4 thunderbolt USB-C ports, 2 USB ports, HDMI and Pro audio jacks on the back for seamless connectivity and data transfer between devices. We also have 2 USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the front, making it easy to transfer files when working, such as photos or videos for editing. 

The Mac Studio has WiFi 6 compatibility and Bluetooth 5, allowing super-fast upload and download speeds, as well as seamless connectivity between devices. 

The main feature that is available on certain models of this is the brand new M1 ultra chip,  which is a groundbreaking piece of technology. Using the UltraFusion architecture, it enables incredible bandwidth, low latency and speed. We’re talking a mindblowing 20 core CPU, with 16 cores for performance and 4 for efficiency. We also have a 64 core GPU, to handle demanding graphical challenges seamlessly. Alongside this, you can expect 32 neural cores and a whopping 128GB RAM. Overall, there are barely any tasks that will be too much for this chip to handle, whether that's complex design technology, rendering, or editing.


How much will the Mac Studio cost? 

We can expect the price of the Mac Studio to start from $1,999, with the M1 Ultra version costing around $3,999.

Then we have the Mac Studio display, a 5k screen with minimal bezels, offering the maximum amount of screen space whilst also providing excellent clarity. 

We love the stand on this Mac, which enables tilt, height adjustment and even portrait screen positions. Allowing you to work in whichever way is comfortable and intuitive to you. It has 3 USB-C  ports and 1 thunderbolt port making it perfect to pair with Macbooks, the Mac Mini or of course the Mac Studio. 

The display boasts 600 nits brightness and support for over 1 billion colours as well as an anti-glare coating, making it ideal for creatives. 

It has the A13 Bionic chip inside for fast processing, whilst it utilizes the same 12MP camera that is available on the iPad air, ensuring you can be seen clearly and are always in the frame on conference calls. 

When it comes to audio, the high fidelity 6 speaker sound system includes 4 woofers that minimise distortion and 2 high-performance tweeters that support spatial audio with features such as Dolby Audio. 

How much will the Mac Studio cost? 

The price of the Mac Studio starts at around $1,599.
