What is Lite Hash Rate?

Following the announcement in February that NVIDIA were reducing the Ethereum hash rate in all of their GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards, they have now taken additional measures by applying a reduced hash rate to their new GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti ranges. "Lite Hash Rate" or "LHR" for short, is the term given to these new GPUs, which contain a reduced hash rate making them perfect for gaming use, and harder to mine, without reducing gaming performance. It's important to note that this technology will only apply to GPUs which are labelled as such (LHR/Lite Hash Rate) and not within previously released graphics cards.

Will LHR Impact Gaming Performance?

Taking a look at the LHR versions currently listed, there are no specification differences between the new LHR cards and the previous models, aside from their hash rate. Similarly, aesthetics are alike with no change to their appearance (aside from, of course, minor packaging changes displaying the LHR identifier). Performance-wise, one test involving an RTX 3060 GPU discovered that switching to LHR chips bought "no negative performance impact to gaming". So, while mining performance will be affected, gamers can delight in the fact that games won't be interrupted.
