What is a Micro LED TV?

Samsung has recently unveiled its Micro LED TV, something that has been on the cards for quite some time. 

Micro LEDs offer true top-of-the-range picture quality that will likely exceed any expectations you might have. This is largely thanks to 25 million micro-sized LED lights that individually process their own light and colour levels, leaving you with breathtaking clarity and colour on a range of content. 

It has been stated that this TV range supports 20-bit greyscale depth, providing you with every detail in the content you’re watching. We are seriously impressed with the degrees of control available on this range, we’re talking over 1 million steps of brightness and colour levels.

When it comes to colours, Samsungs Micro LEDs provide you with nothing but the best, as they cover 100% of the Adobe and DCI-P3 colour gamut, so you can be sure that the colours you see are true and accurate, whether you’re watching a 4K nature documentary or a gripping movie. When you consider that most of the high-end TVs that are currently available on the market struggle to get to 95% DCI-P3, whereas Samsungs MicroLED really leaves no stone unturned, not even one percent, it really is something to be impressed by. 

The 99% screen to body ratio means you won’t know where the screen ends and the bezel begins, as it’s practically invisible! Making it perfect for a home cinema or gaming room. This fits hand-in-hand really with the sizes available on this TV range, which are 89”, 101” and 110”. 


Features on the MicroLED

All the screen space offers more advantages than just a large display for watching films, as Multiview lets you connect multiple devices simultaneously and split the screen. So you could be playing the PS5 or Xbox Series S/X on one half of the screen whilst your partner watches TV on the other side…of the SAME TV. How is a Micro LED different to an OLED?

The micro LED is a brand new technology that utilises over 25 million LEDs in the 4K panel. As the LEDs are self-controlled, it is slightly similar to an OLED which has self-lit pixels, however, the micro LEDs use inorganic materials as opposed to the OLED which uses organic. 

As each LED on the Micro LED TVs can be individually controlled, this also means that you can enjoy incredibly low black levels which rival an OLED, however, this TV range takes it up a notch with higher peak brightness levels. This means you get unrivalled contrast, as well as details in both the shadows and the highlights. 


Is Samsung micro-LED expensive? 

Yes. This TV is really is designed to be the best of the best, and it has the price tag to match. As this is also a new technology, we can expect higher initial costs as this is usually what happens in the technology industry especially with TVs. We are expecting the Micro LEDs to sit around £63,000

However, the whopping 6 figure pricetag may come down over time, if the micro-LEDs become popular and become more widely adopted. Plus, let’s be honest, most of us don’t have the space for around a 100” TV in our home. 

Hopefully, if is a successful technology that is ready to be adopted by the masses, smaller screen sizes will become available too. 

Overall, Samsungs brand new Micro LED range holds its place firmly as a real premium TV for those who are looking for the best of the best, but for now, this may just be TV we can afford in our dreams…Sigh.
