LG C2 vs G2 2022 TVs - Which should you buy?

LG’s 2022 TV models, as well as some of the technology we can expect have just been unveiled, and we are so excited! 

If you’re wondering what the differences are between the premium C2 and G2 range, we will go through the new specs and features we can expect from both of these ranges, so you can easily decide which would be best suited for you. If you wanted a side-by-side comparison of specs, you can skip to the bottom for a simplified table.


LG C2 VS G2

As the C2 and G2 are both LGs Premium TV ranges, we can expect to find the latest technology in these TVs. The G represents LG’s gallery range, which is designed to encompass the idea of an art gallery, with its always-on screen and flush design, perfect for wall mounting. Whilst the C is the premium OLED range from LG.


TV sizes

We have an increase in the available TV sizes in each 2022 range. The main stand-outs are the 43” C2 and 97" G2. 

The C2 is perfect for bedrooms or smaller spaces whilst still allowing you to enjoy that sharp OLED quality. It’s also available in 48”, 55”, 65”, 77” and 83”.

Alternatively, the G2 now has a whopping 97” OLED TV, which is sure to revolutionise home-cinemas, offering 4K quality on the largest OLED screen yet. Other sizes in the G2 are 55", 65", 77", 83".

Design and frame

Frame-wise, looking at the C2, we have a new composite fibre frame that LG claims makes the whole set half the weight of the C1, this means that wall-mounting by yourself is no longer an impossible task! 

On the other hand, with the G2 we have consistent panel thickness which allows the TV to sit flush against the wall, something that should be a given really, with a TV that is designed to mimic a photo frame. 


Brightness and panels

On the G2 we have a new brightness booster that can enable the TV to display up to an impressive 1000 nits, this is largely thanks to a new heat dissipation system. 

Whilst the C2 is not set to have the brightness booster, it’s suggested that it will still be able to offer up to 900 nits brightness on the larger screen models.

We don’t yet know if the OLED.EX panels will be used in the G2 range, however, we are quite certain they will be available on the C2 range. To find out more about what the OLED.EX panels are, click through to our blog on this. 

We are expecting that most premium OLEDs will be able to withstand higher brightness for longer than previous generations, helping to overcome one of the main issues with OLEDs. Plus they are both set to have Evo technology which is a combination of a new panel and optimised processing.

Audio

When it comes to sound, we can expect Dolby atmos on both of these ranges, as well as 7.1.2 surround sound, a great upgrade from last years 5.1 surround sound, offering immersive audio on all of your favourite titles. 


Processing 

Both feature an upgraded Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor as well as many of the features we have grown to love and expect from an LG TV, such as Filmmaker mode, Dolby Atmos and Vision, as well as the game dashboard and intuitive user interface. 

The A9 chip offers upscaling on sub-4K content whilst tone mapping zones are up from 576 zones to 10X more with an impressive 5000 zones. Meanwhile, object enhancement helps to separate the object from the background, offering distinct stand-out visuals. 


WebOS22

The new OS that will be on both the C2 and G2 is WebOS22, which is expected to allow you to set up profiles for quick and easy access to the content you love. We are also looking forward to Google Stadia and GeForce Now game streaming services being available too. With the G2 you will also have access to premium gallery services. 

The C2 and G2 are also expected to have room-to-room sharing for viewing cable or satellite content from another TV at home. 


Gaming 

Both the C2 and G2 offer a great range of features designed to enhance your gaming experience, from Game Optimiser to up to HDMI 2.1 connectivity. HDMI 2.1 connectivity opens up a huge array of benefits, from 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz gaming to VRR, Freesync and G-sync compatibility, and lower latency. This makes them the perfect TVs for gaming on your next-gen consoles, such as the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series S or X, in the highest possible quality. 


Which one should you buy, LG C1 or G1?

In terms of specs and features, there are many similarities between the two ranges from the A9 processor to Dolby Atmos. Whilst the G2 does have the brightness booster, we are yet to find out whether it will have the revolutionary OLED.EX panel, which could put the C2’s panel ahead of the G2.

In terms of the size range, we have the bedroom and small-space friendly 43” C2, or for a home cinema that’s out of this world we have the G2. Aside from that, the TV sizes are relatively similar.

So when it comes to which one you should buy, it really is down to your preferences, is an art-gallery frame style or a classic OLED TV better suited for you? Is the brightness booster a game-changer? If so, the G2 may be ideal. You may choose depending on what kind of space you have, if it’s a small space the C2 may be a better fit. Ultimately it all depends on your personal preferences and needs.
