The battle of the budget GPUs is on! This week, we have seen the release of AMD’s Radeon RX 6500XT, and whilst it is packed with some impressive specs and sits at an affordable price, many of us are wondering how it sits in comparison to its closest competitor, the RTX 3050 which is due to be released on the 27th.

With them both coming out in Jan 2022, we are expecting a surge in popularity on these new GPUs as the affordable range are likely to be adopted by many. Whether you’re a beginner looking to build your first rig, or you’re looking for a little refresh on your old Gaming PC without spending a fortune, these may be the ideal choice for you.

If we compare them spec by spec, we can make estimations on how they will perform. However, we are yet to test them out first-hand to make a certain verdict. We hope that we will soon be able to test them both out and update this blog accordingly. 

Whilst we are expecting AMDs graphics card to sit at a cheaper price than Nvidia's, we also notice that the RTX 3050 has some pretty impressive specs. When it comes to memory and bandwidth, we have 144GB/s on the RX 6500 and 224GB/s on the RTX 3050.  As well as max PCIe bandwidth 3.0 and 4.0 X4 on AMDs GPU and 4.0 X 16 on the Nvidia.

We also see Double the amount of VRAM from 4GB on the RX 6500 XT to 89GB on the RTX 3050, offering the ability for more complex rendering. However, on the RX 6500 XT, we see an awesome boost clock rate of 2,815 MHz compared to 1.78 GHz on the RTX 3050.

We also get some pretty impressive features on them both, such as the boosting of frame rates for higher resolution and impressive RayTracing for more realistic visuals.

On the RTX 3050, we have Nvidia reflex which helps you react faster, offering a competitive advantage when you need it most. This GPU also has Encoder, which offers great performance and quality optimisations on your favourite apps, whilst the Broadcast app makes the most of AI effects such as noise removal, virtual background and more. 

The RTX 3050 is also backed by Nvidia studio, which offers AI acceleration in creative apps, making it perfect for CAD, 4K video editing and more. 

On the AMD we have features such as Direct X 12 ultimate support and FidelityFX which helps to improve visual quality and performance. Fidelity FX offers a boost in rame rates so you can enjoy top-quality visuals. Plus, Ray Tracing traces the light rays and renders them to enable graphics to look as realistic as possible. 

You do get a few more features on the RTX 3050, so if this is something you are keen on, you may sway in the direction of Nvidia. However, the boost clock on the RX 6500 XT is pretty spectacular.

You may have noticed we have not included price, this is because the RRP rarely reflects the actual price they will be selling for when it comes to GPUs. However, we can expect that AMD’s RX 6500 XT will be cheaper than Nvidias RTX 3050.


Which is better, RX 6500 XT or RTX 3050?

The RX 6500 XT is set to be super affordable and does come with some pretty impressive specs. Whilst Nvidias is likely to be a little more expensive, you do get slightly more spec-wise. We are looking forward to testing these out when possible, so stay tuned!
