How to Update Sony BRAVIA TVs to Install on Demand Catch Up TV Apps

Can you get BBC Iplayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5 and YouView on Sony Bravia TVs?

Previously, Sony Bravia TVs did not support BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5 and YouView, but now this is possible!

Finally, you can enjoy your favourite shows from a range of channels on demand. This means you don’t need to worry if you’ve missed an episode of live TV, because you can easily catch up on a date and time that suits you best.


Will all Sony Bravia TVs enable All 4, iPlayer, ITV Hub, My5 and YouView?

This was officially launched on December 21st and is set to slowly roll out across TVs from January 2022, with TVs starting to receive the update through the usual update process if your TV is connected to the internet.

It is beginning with Google TVs but is set to continue to roll out over time until it is available on most Sony Bravia TVs. To find out if your TV is applicable, click here to be taken to Sonys web page on this.

If you did want it earlier, perhaps just in time for the Christmas holidays so that you can catch up on TV shows and movies over the festive period, worry not as this is possible via a manual USB update. We will go over the instructions for this below.


How to update a Sony Bravia TV over the internet

If your TV is connected to the internet, you should be able to do this when your TV is ready for an update.

1) Press the ‘help’ button on the remote.

2) Select Status & Diagnostics. Note: If Status & Diagnostics is not shown, skip this step.

3) Select System software update.

4) Select Automatically check for update.

5) If your TV is ready for an update, it should show here and you will just need to click update.

*note this may vary slightly depending on your TV model*



How to manually update your Sony Bravia TV

You can also update the software by using a USB flash drive. You may want to do this if an internet connection is not set up on your TV, or you don’t want to wait for the update to become available on your TV.

You will need a computer or laptop that’s connected to the internet and a USB flash drive with at least 2GB of free storage space.

Steps: 

1) Go to Sony.co.uk and find the support tab.

2) Search your TV model number and then select the downloads tab.

3) Click on the firmware link dated 21/12/21 and hit download.

4) Once it is downloaded onto your computer, insert the USB flash drive.

5) Drag and drop the file to the root directory of your USB device, once done safely remove the USB.

6) Restart the TV by and holding the power button on your remote for at least 3 seconds, click restart

7) Ensure there are no other USB devices connected to your TV

8) Insert the USB flash drive containing the sony ZIP file into any USB port on your TV

9) Once the USB drive has been connected, you will get a range of instructions appear. Follow these (if they don’t appear automatically, use the remote to turn the TV off and on again)

10) Let the update begin, you will know this is the case as you will get an update screen and a white flashing light on the power indicator.

11) After several minutes, the TV will turn off and then turn back on to complete the update.
*WARNING! During the software installation process ensure you DO NOT remove the USB device, turn off the TV or disconnect the TV from the power supply.

12) The TV will restart automatically once the update is completed. You can then safely remove the USB drive.
