How to Pair AirPods with Nintendo Switch?
The Nintendo Switch update version 13.0.0 is here! And with its release comes the ability to pair your Apple Airpods, along with other Bluetooth headphones to your Switch (finally!).
Using a Bluetooth device for audio output makes the console even more portable for gaming on the go without the need for wired audio devices.
How many Bluetooth audio devices can I use?
Your console can use only one Bluetooth audio device at a time but it can be paired with up to 10 devices that will be saved in your settings. So, how do you pair AirPods with the Nintendo Switch Console?
You can pair your Apple AirPods to your Nintendo Switch Console with these simple steps:- Make sure your Switch is updated to the latest version (13.0.0)
- Go to ‘System Settings’, then ‘Bluetooth Audio’ towards the bottom of the settings list.
- Click ‘Pair Device’.
- Hold the button on the back of your AirPods case until the light on the front flashes white, to make sure it can be detected by the console.
- Select your AirPods on the Switch and wait for them to connect.
What’s the catch?
If you do connect your AirPods, keep in mind that you will only be able to connect up to two wireless controllers while you have an audio device connected. That means if you want to connect more than two wireless controllers to play with family or friends, your AirPods will be disconnected. It’s important to note also, that your pair of Joy-Con counts as two wireless controllers.
Nintendo’s support also explains that Bluetooth audio will be disconnected during local communication, such as when starting a local wireless multiplayer game, and Bluetooth Microphones are not compatible.
It’s possible that you may also experience latency, but this depends on the Bluetooth device you are using.
How do I remove AirPods from my devices list?
If you ever want to remove your Airpods from the devices, simply go back into the Bluetooth Audio via the system settings, select your AirPods from the list and select ‘Remove Device’. If you want to reconnect, you’ll need to follow the pairing steps above again.
If you just want to disconnect your AirPods so that audio output is changed to your console or TV, you can also change this in the device settings by selecting ‘Disconnect Device’.
