ASUS HDMI 2.1 Monitors 2021

In response to the growing demand for monitors with HDMI 2.1 connectivity, ASUS have designed two HDMI 2.1 Gaming Monitors. The ROG STRIX was released earlier this year, it's available to buy from Box.co.uk, and is the worlds first HDMI 2.1 gaming monitor! However, ASUS also have the ROG Swift PG32UQ, which is set for release later this year. This may have you wondering whether to rush out and buy the brand new Strix gaming monitor or hold out a bit longer for the Swift.

If you're unsure about which monitor might be best for you, you're in the right place. Here we have broken down the key differences we can expect from ASUS' two awesome Gaming monitors so that you can easily decide which is going to be best for you.

Differences between Strix XG43UQ and Swift PG32UQ Explained

Let's go over some of the main differences between the monitors, and what this might mean for you. The Strix offers a whopping 43'' display, providing a huge amount of screen space. Plus when you consider its 10W speakers and remote control, you may find that it seems suited to console gamers who might place it on a TV stand and be sitting a short distance from the monitor. Whilst the 32'' Swift is far from small and will also offer a great amount of screen space, its size may make it better suited for a desk setup. 

The VA panel on the Strix offers 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut, while the IPS panel on the Swift offers a seriously impressive 98% DCI-P3. IPS panels can generally offer a wider viewing angle with minimal colour distortion when compared with VA panels, so could be ideal for multiplayer gaming. Similarly, the 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut on the Swift exceeds the Strix by 8%. While 90% is certainly great by any means, the 98% really is incredible and will mean you are viewing incredibly accurate and realistic colours. Furthermore, the Swift is stated to ensure natural and accurate colours right out of the box by being calibrated to an average delta E of less than two, so you can spend more time gaming and less time messing with settings.

On the other hand, whilst the colour accuracy is slightly better on the Swift, the brightness is significantly higher on the Strix. This is because the Swift is HDR600 certified whilst the Strix is HDR1000 certified, therefore offering a spectacular peak brightness of 1000 nits - over double the average for OLED TV's!

Whilst both of the monitors have impressive VRR technology, there is set to be a slight difference. The Strix comes with Freesync 2 HDR which has HDR support. However, the Swift will have Freesync Premium Pro and is currently in the process of looking to receive G-sync certification, allowing you to enjoy VRR technology no matter what you're playing on.

Where both monitors are similar is in their crisp 4K resolution, smooth 144Hz refresh rate and sharp 1ms response time. They both also have the important HDMI 2.1 port which allows Auto Low Latency, VRR and native 4K at 120Hz. In addition to this, both monitors have DP 1.4, which may be useful for PC gamers to unlock the full refresh rate and resolution.
