OTS & Q-symphony Explained - Which 2021 Samsung TVs will have them?

Samsungs ever-expanding technology has brought about some brilliant developments in audio. You may have been hearing the words 'Object tracking sound' and 'Q-symphony' recently, as they have been present on a range of Samsung TV's for a while, but are certainly awesome features to look out for on their 2021 models

If you're unsure of what these buzzwords mean, you're in the right place, as in this blog we will break down the two types of technology and what they can offer you, as well as listing some of the 2021 models that are expected to have them on.

What is Object tracking sound?

Samsung's Object Tracking sound (also called OTS) is sound that is perfectly synergised with visuals, to create a totally immersive, multisensory experience. OTS uses smart technology to track the movement of objects on-screen, it then utilizes the built-in speakers that surround the TV to project the sound from its on-screen location. This gives the impression that the sound is coming from the actual object on the screen.

OTS offers a three dimensional sound that makes viewing your favourite film or TV show even more immersive. A brilliant example of this is when watching a helicopter flying over the top of the screen and simultaneously hearing the audio coming from the top of the TV. Similarly, when watching an action scene such as a car chase, you can enjoy the sound that actually follows the car...awesome, right?

What is the difference between OTS Lite, OTS, OTS + and OTS Pro

There have been a range of developments in OTS, from OTS Lite, to OTS, OTS+ and now OTS Pro, so if you're a little confused on the differences between them, don't worry, as we will explain it right here. We have also included a list at the bottom of this Blog with the 2021 models and the type of OTS they have.

OTS Lite

The virtual top provides 2.0 Channel audio. This is found on the more budget-friendly Samsung Models.

Two top speakers provide 2.2.2 Channel audio for a sound that follows on-screen action above the TV.

OTS

OTS +

This offers 4.2.2 Channel Audio, on models such as the QN800A this is by two top speakers and two side-firing speakers. On models such as QN90/94/95A this is achieved by two top speakers and two bottom tweeters.

OTS +

OTS Pro

6.2.2 Channel Audio is created via two top firing speakers, two centre tweeters and two side-firing speakers. This is the ultimate sound experience provided by Samsung.

So overall, as OTS progresses, we have an increase in speakers which offers an enhanced directional effect as well as voice clarity.

It is also worth mentioning that the OTS available does change depending on the size of the TV, this is because as TV's get bigger, speakers on different sides of the TV are far enough to be perceived as different sources. Therefore the sounds do not blur into one another and remain distinctive. Similarly, having many speakers on a smaller TV would not result in the object-tracking sound being effective.

What is Q-symphony?

Q-symphony is Samsung's modern audio technology that is designed to take your audio experience to the next level. When you combine a Q-symphony compatible Soundbar with a compatible Q series TV, you will be able to experience Q-symphony. This sound feature synergises audio from the TV with the soundbar to create a harmonious surround sound experience.

When some Soundbars are combined with a TV, you may find the Soundbar actually cancels out the TV's audio, however, Q-symphony has been designed so that they complement one another. Samsung describe it as a 1+1=2 scenario. One Soundbar plus One QLED TV equals Double the Audio Experience. Q-symphony is so powerful that it has been described as replicating the feeling of being in a concert hall!
