Hi Megalamonster! Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

When did your streaming journey begin, and what inspired you to start?

I’ve always loved gaming. Ever since my Mom came home with a Sega MegaDrive, I’ve been obsessed! But streaming was something that was never really on my radar until I was in a position where I could dedicate time to gaming every day. I tore my ACL in early 2018 and while I was learning how to walk again, I decided to make use of my time on the sofa and take gaming a little more seriously. Honestly after that, the rest is history!

Once I joined Twitch, I instantly found a community of amazing people from all over the world who I could chat and game with no matter how late I stayed up!

What's your favourite game/content to stream/share? What do you enjoy most about it?

I mainly play shooty shooty games like COD, Apex Legends and Star Wars Battlefront II but I’ve been experimenting with a variety of other content recently, from more chilled games like the Sims, to building Lego sets on stream. It’s important to just have fun with it! I’m lucky to have formed a fantastic community who show up regardless of what I’m playing or saying. I think that’s what I enjoy the most, the sense of everyone coming together during my streams and having a good time.

Do you feel like there is a stigma for women streamers in the industry?

Not so much as a stigma but I definitely feel as though female streamers are overlooked and aren’t taken as seriously in the industry. There is a common misconception that women have it easier on these kinds of platforms, but in my personal experience, that’s not the case. It can be hard to deal with comments regarding my gameplay being inferior because they’ve figured out I’m female. Or that I’m not deserving of my viewership because I’m a girl. Do I have to deal with more unwarranted comments than the male streamers? Probably. But I tend to use these experiences as lessons, especially if these interactions are happening while I’m live. It’s important to talk about issues such as gender equality, and I’m now in a position where I can do that. It shouldn’t be happening and it’s a shame that it does. At the end of the day, we are all here because we enjoy one thing: content creation. We are all doing our best, regardless of pronouns. If you put the time and effort into your content, you’ll receive that hard work back in some way. Your gender should never play a part in your success.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to women who want to begin streaming?

My one bit of advice for other women thinking of getting into the streaming industry would be to just go for it! Find something that genuinely interests you and just make sure you create content that you’re happy with. Play what you want to play, rather than what you THINK people want to see you play. And also, don’t take the negative comments to heart. The internet is fickle and with the good comes the bad. It’s important to understand that the words of others are not a reflection of you as a person or a streamer.
