Hi Lucia! Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

  1. I’ve been a vegan for over 15 years and I grew up in a small town which makes it even more amazing because of how limited options were out there.
  2. I’m a software engineer that focuses on accessibility, which is the process of making sure websites are usable by people of all abilities.
  3. I love collecting skulls and other oddities, I just recently purchased an original Ouija board.

When did your streaming journey begin, and what inspired you to start?

My streaming journey is a little strange because even though I started about two years ago, it really didn’t truly begin until after I came out as trans. I sort of started over from scratch as an entirely different person who was just setting out to discover who they were.

I was inspired by a lot of the various political and just chatting streamers who talked about important issues while fostering really chill spaces for people to learn and connect. Being a voice for the communities you are part of is really powerful and inspiring.

It took a while to finally get to a point where I had a decent sized audience but you really do start to see the impact you can have on people when they can see themselves in you. I’ve had people message me about their own coming out stories, and thanking me for speaking up about important issues that impact their own lives.

What's your favourite game/content to stream/share? What do you enjoy most about it?

I enjoy just chatting the most because it gives me the most opportunity to connect with my viewerbase as well as new people coming into my channel. It’s really hard to explain what my streams are like because they can vary so wildly.

One minute we are talking about witchcraft, the next minute we are debating whether Mountain Dew Livewire is orange soda, and then we end up talking about something in the current news about LGBTQUIA2+ rights. Sometimes it can be a bit polarizing for new viewers but it is always fun.

I’m also really into experimental visuals and creating experiences as well. Twitch can be a great place for visual storytelling and music. Combining that along with user interaction can lead to some interesting content. My plans for this year are to continue pushing the limits of what has been done and hopefully carve out my own unique niche.

Do you feel like there is a stigma for women streamers in the industry?

There is absolutely a stigma for women in streaming, especially in regards to gaming. Not only do they have to put in the same effort as everyone else, they have to do it while being constantly objectified and harassed.

If a woman finds even a moderate amount of success it is because of her body or how she looks, not the effort that she puts in. Even some of the most skilled FPS players deal with harassment and are constantly compared to their male counterparts.

Being trans also gives me a unique perspective into this because I see it from two sides, the side where people say that I am only successful because of my femininity, but also the people who refuse to acknowledge me for not being a “real woman”.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to women who want to begin streaming?

Ignore the rules (except for ToS). People will tell you that you need to do X or Y while avoiding Z to be successful, but there is no real formula for success. You have to do what you enjoy and what inspires you because that is what users will respond to the most at the end of the day. Plus we can define success in many different ways, so figure out what your definition of it is.
