How To Design an RGB Gaming PC

Whether you want the inside of your PC to look like a unicorn or prefer a single-colour scheme, there are some steps you should consider when planning an RGB PC build. We've put together this simple guide to help you with your RGB-filled PC journey- trust us, you'll be wanting more than just LED strips!

If you didn't know, RGB refers to the three hues of light which can be combined to produce over sixteen million colours- Red, Green and Blue. Monitors, TVs and smartphones all use RGB to produce their colours, and in the gaming world, RGB is used to add a variety of colourful displays to a gaming setup.

When starting out, it's important to learn about RGB software and eco-systems. Many gaming brands have their own lighting management software which you can use to sync their components' lighting together so you can create your own epic display within your PC. Along the years, some brands have teamed with each other to enable you to control a variety of different components in sync. ASUS Aura is a great example, and you can spot the ASUS Aura Sync logo on a variety of many well-known case, cooling and RGB LED-strip manufacturers. We recommend sticking to just a couple different softwares, to save meddling with a tonne of settings.

Case

As the body of your PC, it's important to choose the right case to compliment your setup. A clean, minimalist case is an ideal option if you'll be flooding the interior with RGB lights and visuals. Base colours which always work well are white or black, which can look very effective against a colourful interior. For a stunning white exterior, we recommend the Corsair 4000D Mid-Tower case which has plenty of room for components and cooling, and will look stunning thanks to the tempered glass side panel to expose an RGB interior.

For those looking for a black case, the Corsair Crystal Series 680X Mid-Tower Case is a great choice, with its tempered glass side panel and three included RGB fans on the front. There really are so many options out there, but we definitely recommend going with a case which includes a tempered glass side panel and plenty of space inside for cabling and parts. When purchasing your case, do keep the RGB software management in mind for those which include fans, as this will help you find parts which can work in sync using the same software.


Motherboard

Want to go all-out with the RGB? Why not choose a motherboard that has lighting included! From glowing logos to RGB lighting down the edges, there are many options to choose from to suit your build. Brands such as MSI and ASUS have stunning options for those wanting some lighting on their motherboard. You could even choose a motherboard to suit your case, such as a white motherboard with RGB to match a white case! This style of build can look super clean and very effective.


GPU

Similarly to motherboards, graphics cards now often include some form of RGB lighting, adding a cool effect to their style. As with all parts, make it easier on yourself by choosing brands which can work in sync together when it comes to RGB software.
 
 

RAM and Storage

You can add RGB to your system all the way down to the RAM and storage. By adding some RGB DDR4 RAM modules to your motherboard, you can create gorgeous effects which really make your RAM look exciting! Corsair, HyperX and TeamGroup are just some of the most popular brands releasing brilliantly-colourful RGB modules. Whether you want full-blown RGB colour or just a strip, there is an option for every setup. LED Strips and Cables

So, you've got your case and components sorted. For the finishing touches, we recommend looking into case accessories such as LED light strips and sleeved cables. LED light strips (similarly to what you may use in your bedroom!) can be applied along the inside of the case to really make the colour pop. A lot of these strips are magnetic, meaning they can simply be snapped onto your case with included backing tape. Sleeved cables are also a brilliant way to add colour and look great when used amongst a single colour setup, such as an all-red themed PC. Phanteks have a wide range of coloured sleeved extension cables, from brilliant white to bright red. By combining LED lighting and coloured sleeved extension cables, you can really make your setup unique to you! Don't forget, less can be more when it comes to RGB, and it's easy to go overboard with this style, so it's best to plan your vision ahead of time and stick to your plan.
