The recent 2021 release of Nvidia's RTX 30 Series for laptops has us very excited about what this means for the future of laptop gaming. If you missed the launch, don't worry! We will give you a rundown of all key features right here, before letting you know when and where you can grab yourself an RTX 3080 gaming laptop

Features of the 30 series

The first thing to mention is the extraordinary performance jump from the 20 series to the 30 series as performance is almost doubled! This is due to Nvidia's new Ampere architecture - which is the advancement from it's Turing architecture. The Ampere Streaming Multiprocessors (SM) deliver an impressive 2X the output of it’s predecessors, to give you a laptop that packs a performance punch.

Ray-tracing

The RTX GPU series centre around the all-important ray tracing, which gives incredibly lifelike lighting. The 30 series GPU's feature the second-generation RT cores which can handle up to twice the throughput of the 20 series. What does this mean for you? Well, it means effortless and realistic visuals on a range of modern titles including Cyberpunk 2077 and Minecraft with RTX.

DLSS

Nvidia DLSS is powered by the 3rd generation Tensor cores, which can give up to 2X the throughput of the Turing-architecture Tensor cores. DLSS allows you to enjoy cranked up settings in ray traced and rasterised games, by boosting frame rates whilst also maintaining super-sharp visuals.

Nvidia Reflex

Nvidia understand that latency or input lag can be the difference between winning and losing in competitive games where each millisecond counts. This is why they have designed Nvidia reflex, which can reduce input lag and optimise system latency to give you the upper-hand in fast-paced games!

A GPU for work and play

A laptop with the RTX 3080 is perfect for those looking to use it for creative work as well as play, as it can work as a portable studio. This GPU has been backed by Nvidia studio, and therefore is optimised to accelerate performance in a range of creative apps to give you faster creative workflows. It also has AI acceleration to give incredibly fast performance. So whether you're rendering complex 3D scenes, editing high-resolution video or live streaming in HD, you’ll be backed by the power and performance of the 30 series.

For the bloggers and streamers out there, the Nvidia broadcast app has been designed with you in mind as you can now enhance your audio and video with background noise removal, accelerated encoding and virtual backgrounds.

Max Q technologies

Say hello to the 3rd generation Max-Q technologies, which have been optimised to give both power and performance in thin and light laptops

Dynamic boost

The AI powered dynamic boost 2.0 delivers the needed power between the GPU, GPU memory, and CPU for a larger performance boost than ever before.  The AI networks in Dynamic Boost 2.0 manage power on a per-frame basis, so your laptop is constantly optimizing for maximum performance while you’re gaming and creating.

Whispermode 2.0

Enjoy an entirely new level of acoustic control on the 3080. With Whispermode 2.0, all you have to do is pick your desired acoustic level and let the AI algorithms manage the CPU, GPU, fan speeds and system temperatures for you, giving you optimal performance with minimum effort required.

Resizable bar

This advanced PCI Express feature enables the CPU to access the entire GPU frame buffer at once, so you can enjoy enhanced performance.

The 30 series

Allow yourself to feel the difference with the RTX 30 series. Whether you’re a gamer or content creator, you will no doubt benefit from one of the fastest cards available.

How does the 3080 compare to the 2080?

The 30 Series uses the Ampere architecture, which brings a substantial jump in performance (almost double) that of the 20 series Turing architecture.

Whilst we do have ray tracing and tensor cores on the 2080 series, raytracing was not commonly adopted in games when it the 20 series was released. However as ray tracing has increased in popularity, we now see more games taking advantage of it. This is why we are excited to find second-generation dedicated ray-tracing cores on the 30 series which can give ultra-realistic graphics effortlessly.

In addition to this, we have the third generation of AI as well as third-gen Max-Q technologies, which give cutting edge features including improved dynamic boost and whisper mode. In terms of specs, the 3080 also has over double the Cuda cores, is available in double the memory and has a significantly higher boost clock than the 20 series.

Overall, we have a smaller processor that delivers almost double the performance of it's predecessor in a range of games and applications, and without much of a difference in price!
