Recently we saw Nvidia reveal the RTX 30 series for laptops, and we are pretty excited! If you missed the memo, don’t worry, as we’ll give you a little run down on the specs and features of the 3060 right here before letting you know where you will be able to grab yourself an RTX 3060 gaming laptop. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Features of the 30 series

The first thing to note on the 30 series is the incredible performance jump, as it’s nearly double that of the previous generation! This is made possible with the new Ampere architecture - which is the evolution from their Turing architecture. The Ampere Streaming Multiprocessors (SM) deliver an impressive 2X the output of its predecessors, so you’ll have a laptop that packs a performance punch.

Ray-tracing

A key feature of the RTX cards is of course Ray tracing. The second-generation RT cores on the 30 series can handle up to double the throughput from its predecessor, so can process raytracing effortlessly on a range of titles including Cyberpunk 2077 and Minecraft with RTX.

DLSS

Performance in rasterised and ray traced games is accelerated with Nvidia DLSS, which works brilliantly at boosting frame rates while maintaining sharp visuals, so you can enjoy cranked up settings and resolutions. This is powered by the 3rd generation Tensor cores, which can give up to 2X the throughput of the Turing-architecture Tensor cores.

Nvidia Reflex

The 30 series has Nvidia reflex, which is designed to reduce input lag and optimise system latency. As we all know, latency or input lag can be the difference between winning and losing in fast-paced competitive games, so reflex can help to give you that all-important competitive advantage!

A GPU for work and play

For those looking to use the GPU for creative work as well as play, you’ll have a portable studio with a 3060 laptop. You can enjoy faster creative workflows as this GPU been optimised to accelerate performance in a range of creative apps and is backed by the NVIDIA studio platform. It delivers AI acceleration and is built to perform in record time so whether you’re rendering complex 3D scenes, livestreaming in high definition or editing high resolution video content, you’ll be backed by the power and performance of the 30 series. For those whose work consists of blogging and streaming, you will benefit from the Nvidia broadcast app, which can enhance voice by removing background noise as well as upgrade video with accelerated encoding and virtual backgrounds.

Max Q technologies

Behold the 3rd generation Max-Q technologies, which have been optimised to give both power and performance in thin and light laptops

Dynamic boost

The AI powered dynamic boost 2.0 delivers the needed power between the GPU, GPU memory, and CPU for a larger performance boost than ever before.  The AI networks in Dynamic Boost 2.0 manage power on a per-frame basis, so your laptop is constantly optimizing for maximum performance while you’re gaming and creating.

Whispermode 2.0

Say hello to a new level of acoustic control. Pick your own desired acoustic level and Whispermode 2.0’s AI algorithms will manage the CPU, GPU, fan speeds and system temperatures give you the best possible performance.

Resizable bar

This advanced PCI Express feature enables the CPU to access the entire GPU frame buffer at once, so you can enjoy enhanced performance.

The 30 series

Overall you will feel the difference with the RTX 30 series, whether you’re gaming or content creating, you will no doubt benefit from one of the fastest cards available.

How does the 3060 compare to the 2060?

The 30 Series uses the Ampere architecture, which brings a huge leap in performance (nearly double) that of the turning architecture which is found on the 20 Series.

Whilst we have ray tracing and tensor cores on the 2060, when the 20 series was released, raytracing was relatively new and not commonly adopted in games. However as it becomes more popular, we see more games taking advantage of it. This is why we are excited to see second-generation dedicated ray-tracing cores on the 30 series for the most realistic graphics made effortless.

We also have the third generation of AI as well as third-gen Max-Q technologies to give cutting edge features including improved dynamic boost and whisper mode. In addition to this, the 3060 also has double the Cuda cores and a significantly higher boost clock.

Overall, we have a smaller processor that delivers almost double the performance of its predecessor in a range of games and applications, and without much of a difference in price!
