How To Take Better Instagram Photos: iPhone Tips

Remember Instagram back in 2010? The just-launched app was a new and inventive way to quickly share your snaps, not just to your friends, but to people all over the world. While the barebones of Instagram's design has stayed relatively the same, the content sure hasn't. Fast-forward 11 years later, and our feeds are full of beautiful images, professional shots and high-quality content wherever you look.

While professional cameras are favoured by some, they're not a necessity when it comes to Instagram. You can definitely achieve brilliant photography using your smartphone, and by having a few tricks up your sleeve it can really help you get the perfect photo. Read on for our top tips for iPhone photography!

1. Keep It Minimal

Minimalist style imagery is not only popular on the platform at the moment, but it's also a great way for your photos to really stand out among other people's posts! Create clean and simple compositions to really catch peoples attention.

2. Brighten Up Dark Selfies

Looking to get your hands on an iPhone 12? Well, the camera quality and options may just sell it for you! We love the Night Mode feature which gives you enhanced details and clarify for your low-lit photos. The Night Mode icon at the top of the phone's display will turn yellow when the feature is active. You can also adjust exposure settings while you're at it! Hold the iPhone steady until the capture is complete for best results (a tripod comes in handy here).

3. Natural Lighting

Taking photos outside or next to sources of natural light is a great way of capturing their full clarity and colour. Even if you only have a window, you can benefit from the natural light, and even prevent dark areas by placing a large piece of white card on the opposite side, to bounce the light back onto the subject!

4. Stop Using Zoom

For better clarity, try to avoid using the iPhone zoom feature. Instead, snap away, and then use the crop tool in 'Edit' mode to focus in on the subject you are aiming for. This prevents any distortion or blurred imagery which can occur when you use the zoom feature.

5. Tap to Focus

Next time you're taking a photo, tap the screen while you're focusing. This brings up a little yellow square where you can specify the point of interest in the photo! Here, you can also drag the sun icon up and down to adjust the brightness. Perfect for focusing on a subject!
