How to Connect your AirPods/AirPods Pro to the PlayStation 5

 





In this article we will explain step by step how to connect your AirPods/AirPods Pro to the Playstation 5 with the help of one small accessory. Although we discuss AirPods in this article, the steps in this can be applied to any Bluetooth Audio Device that you wish to connect to the PS5.


Does the Playstation 5 come with Bluetooth?

The release of the PS5 has been highly anticipated, and in most ways has exceeded our expectations with it's awesome features and incredible design. However, we were surprised (and a little disappointed) to discover that it cannot support Bluetooth audio devices. Luckily there is a quick, easy and cheap fix for this as all you will need is a Bluetooth Adapter or Dongle that plugs into the PS5.

There are a range of PS5 Bluetooth adapters on the market from some that are USB-C, USB and even 3.5mm, but they all do the same job so which you decide to buy is simply down to your preference. There are even some that allow you to pair two devices so both you and a friend can connect your AirPods to the PlayStation simultaneously. The Bluetooth adapters are readily available online and inexpensive as you can expect to grab one for less than £20.

So now you have everything you need (Charged AirPods, Bluetooth Adapter, PS5), let’s get into it:

Instructions:

1. Plug the Bluetooth adapter dongle into the PS5 (this could be at the front, back or on the controller)

 2. Hold the pairing button down on the adapter, on most devices a flashing light indicates pairing mode

3. Open AirPods case and press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case

4. Hold the pairing button until the light on the Bluetooth Adapter turns solid, this indicates pairing is complete

5. Put the AirPods in your ears and test the audio connection

*(If you are having difficulty hearing anything try checking the audio settings on the PS5, you need the audio output to be the Bluetooth device)



Overall connection is really simple, there were no issues with lag and the sound quality was great. The only thing to consider with using AirPods as your audio device is that unfortunately the PS5 doesn’t let you use the Mic on the AirPods. So whilst you can hear clearly through them, you cannot speak through them. Fortunately you can use the Mic on the controller for this, which you can do by selecting Mic input as the controller.
