NVIDIA RTX 2060 READY TO REDEFINE 1080P GAMING
It’s an announcement we all knew was coming, but it’s still
caused a major stir amongst the gaming community – NVIDIA has released the RTX
2060 graphics card.
The RTX 2060 is the successor to the hugely successful GTX
1060 – and it’s brilliant.
Packed with 6GB of the latest 14Gbps GDDR6 video memory and
50 per cent more CUDA cores (1,920) than the GTX 1060, this is a mid-range
graphics card which obliterates its predecessor, and many of its competitors.
The NVIDIA GTX 1060 was designed for 1080p gaming and could
cope with some games at 1450p. But the RTX 2060 is 60 per cent faster and has
taken things to the next level when it comes to high-frame rate Full HD gaming,
delivering excellent 1440p results with frame rates well in excess of 60fps.
It’s even capable of dealing with the demands of 4K gaming,
with roughly 30fps in independent benchmarks.
In fact, the only graphics cards to come close to the RTX
2060’s performance are those which are substantially more expensive.
The RTX 2060 features the same AI and ray tracing technology
as the RTX 2080 Ti, 2080 and 2070.
All of this translates to great gaming experience.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang was extremely bullish during the
company’s CES 2019 keynote, where it was revealed a Battlefield V ray-tracing
demo in the background wasn’t running on one of NVIDIA’s existing cards but on
the new budget option.
“For tens of millions of gamers everywhere, next-gen gaming
starts today,” he said. “We have redefined mobile gaming. This is twice the
performance of a PlayStation Pro.
“Desktop gamers are demanding, and the RTX 2060 sets a new
standard — an unbeatable price, extraordinary performance and real-time ray
tracing that blurs the distinction between movies and games. This is a great
moment for gamers and our industry.”
The RTX 2060’s real-time ray-tracing technology enables some
amazingly realistic effects like pixel shading, depth of field and
tessellation. Visitors to CES 2019 were treated to incredible reflections on
cars in Battlefield V. Many games don’t take advantage of these capabilities
yet – but that will come.
Huang said: “If we capture the geometry, shadows just
appear. Just like in the real world. It just works. No faking is necessary.
That’s the beauty of ray tracing.”
The GeForce RTX 2060 will be available from January 15th.
